April 4th The Medical Inspector of Schools made his examination of the pupils of this School, aged 7yrs, and under 8. The School was closed on this day for the Easter Holidays, extending to Tuesday the 16th April.

Of the pupils beginning school attendance on 1st April, the greater number were found to have delayed enrolment beyond the statuary age.

April 16th School resumed after the Easter Holidays with a satisfactory attendance.

April 18th A report by H.M. Inspector on this School is as follows.

“The two lower Infant Classes make fairly good progress. The senior class, which is more immediately under the charge of the Infant Mistress, has been taught with much success: reading is creditably fluent, writing is neat, and arithmetic is accurate and covers a wide range of operation. A perusal of the cumstances of the school.

Records of temperature have been kept in all class – rooms throughout the winter and spring. Taking Miss Dunne’s room as representing the others, it may be noted that the temperature at 10 a.m. from 4th March to 3rd April only reached fifty degrees four times, and that on Febr. 5th the temperature was only thirty- four degrees” (Signed I. Apr.29th The following instruction was received from the Clerk, dated 26th April 1912

“At the meeting of the Board it was unanimously agreed to rescind the resolution by which fixed dates were prescribed for commencing and terminating school attendance. The resolution will take effect after the summer Holidays and pupils will thereafter be at liberty to leave school on attaining the age of 14 years.”

Intimation given by the Clerk that, in view of the Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme, the Board will in future deduct 4% from all teachers’ salaries.

June 27th After the Distribution of Prizes by Miss Stirling of Tarduff, Member of the Board, the School was vacated for the Summer Holidays – 27th June to 13th August.

Aug.13th Following the Summer Holidays the School resumed on this date. There was a satisfactory attendance of pupils, and all of the Staff was present.

Notifications dated 9th Aug 1912 have been received from the Medical Officer of Health respecting cases of Scarlet Fever in the houses of John Bruce, Carron View; Andrew Arthur, 58 Carron View; William Jack, 42 Carron View; Archibald Robertson, 47 Carron View; and Martin Russell 48 Carron View.

Medical Certificates, giving permission to resume school attendance, were received on the 13th Aug. in respect of the cases notified.

Aug. 14th Notification received from the Medical Officer of Health reporting Scarlet Fever in the house of John McNee, 23 Carron View.

The Classes were adjusted for the session by promotion of 34 Infants to Class II and III Jr. : 41 pupils of Junior II and III to Junr.I Class; and 34 pupils of Jr. I Class to Senior II and III Class. Owing to the limited accommodation 36 pupils of Class II and III Sr, had to be asked to attend other schools.

These changes resulted in the Classes being constituted as follows: - Infants 109: Jr.II and III 51: Jr. I 51: Sr II and III 51.

Aug.16th During the week ending at this date 29 pupils were admitted; eight left and 36 were asked to attend other schools, as, without these, the accommodation of the School was completely utilised. Roll 262, average 238.6.

Novr.22nd During the week ending at this date one pupils was admitted and none left. Roll 264; Average 241.4; Percentage 91.4.

The attendance of the Infant Department continues very much below the average, the percentage of attendance for that Department being 88.2, and for the other Divisions of the School 93.8.

Novr.29th During the week ending at this date no pupils were admitted or withdrawn Roll 264; Average 232.2; Percentage of attendance 87.9.

The attendance of the Infant Department is most unsatisfactory, and is in a very large measure, due to the continuous absence of children, whom the medical attendant declares to be unfit for school. The Percentage of attendance for the Infant Department was 81.7 and for the other Divisions of the School 92.7.

Decr.2nd Intimation, received from the Clerk of the Board, that the School would close in the afternoon of the 27th Decr. And reopen on the morning of the 7th Jan. for the New – Year Holidays.

The Clerk also intimates that at a meeting of the Board on the 28th inst the following regulations were adopted regarding exemptions:-

· Applications must be in the hands of the Clerk the week before the meeting:

· Parents must attend the Board meeting in person in support of the application.

· Pupils exempted must attend a full and complete session at a Continuation Class, failing which the Certificate will be withdrawn.

· Applications applying for exemption papers must be informed of the requirements.

Decr.4th H.M.Inspector reports on the School as follows: - “The heating arrangements which proved to be so unsatisfactory last winter, are unaltered”.

The Percentage attendance in the Infant Department has risen to 88.2, while that of the other Division is 94.4.
